You will often see aluminium sandwich panels glazed into curtain walling, windows or doors. These types of panels will normally have either a standard insulated core or sometimes this will be reinforced with either timber, aluminium or steel.
But did you know, that aluminium sandwich panels can also help reduce building U Values as well as improving sound? With the correct external materials they can also provide fire resistance.
The internal and external construction of aluminium panels can give them different characteristics.
The choice of insulation and external skins available for aluminium or steel insulated panels is diverse and enables these panels with a “sandwich” construction to meet or exceed current standards of performance. Here is how.
Fire resistance.
The fire resistance of buildings is of course part of the design process and a legal requirement. In buildings you will often see fire doors, fire proof staircases and fire protection generally.
With the correct external skin and the right internal insulation Fire Resistant panels are possible. AluminiFire resistance is a key requirement of many construction projects and we work with specifiers to meet project needs. This includes the selection of specific facing and core materials that have fire retardant properties, where necessary.
Sound Insulation
Insulated aluminium panels for sound insulation and protection are also possible. There are many environments such as factory, city, chemical and outdoor where more comfortable environments can be created through control of sound. In a similar way to thermal performance, the differing cores can give varying dB reductions.
Thermal Performance of external aluminium panels
With new buildings expected to have low U Values or meet Passivhaus and BREEAM standards for some projects, it is important that the construction materials all play a part in achieving the overall U value required.
The range of insulated cores available for aluminium insulated panels is now of high specification that can achieve A Energy Ratings. With varying cores of Styrofoam, Polyisocyanurate and many others panels can meet precise U values and contribute to overall energy performance.
