Aluminium louvres provide architects with various options in building design and construction. At Superior Insulated Panels we have been fabricating a wide variety of aluminium louvres which we know are installed not just to provide ventilation to plant rooms – their most common use, but also for other reasons.
In designing a building, an architect must consider not just the present use but possible future uses and alterations. Aluminium louvres can provide several features to a building both functional and aesthetic.
What benefits can aluminium louvres provide?
There are several benefits aluminium louvres can provide aside from simple ventilation to plant rooms.
For the more creative architect, louvres can be incorporated into a building’s overall design not just for function but also for aesthetics. Whilst it is true that in most cases louvres are not considered as part of the design, the more creative architect that wishes to create dramatic effects is able to utilise the horizontal lines provided by several banks of louvres to create impact in one or more elevations.
Typical examples of this include North Middlesex Hospital, Doncaster Civic Offices and Leeds United Football Club where aluminium louvres have been used to as part of the overall building design.
In other parts of the world where temperatures are high, aluminium louvres are used to completely cloak a building and provide much needed shading and ventilation. Some of these louvre systems are hinged to allow them to swing back allowing windows to be opened and balconies to be accessed.
Another typical use of aluminium louvres around the world is for water control. Certain countries use louvres as a method of flood control allowing waters to enter and leave a location but at the same time equalizing water pressure and limiting damage to buildings and infrastructure caused by excessive water pressure.
