Multi coloured powder coated aluminium panels transform National Institute

29 April 2014 by Superior Panels

Superior Insulated Panels have contributed to the Science and Technology sector in construction by providing a range of aluminium coloured powder coated fabricated pressings and panels to the new Pirbright Institute.

Multi coloured panels
Superior provided over 30 different contrasting coloured aluminium pressings to blend with the single colour windows installed at the new Pirbright Institute

The Pirbright Institute better known possibly as the Institute for Animal Health  is unique and exceptional in the work that it carries out to contain and seek to eliminate diseases in animals.  Today  The Pirbright Institute through its pioneering work helps the UK industry in livestock, poultry and food in tackling the threat of emerging viruses.

Superior Insulated Panels played an important part in the external fabric of the new Pirbright Institute.

The £100 million project was funded by the Government and constructed by Shepherd Construction.  Superior worked with a leading national curtain walling fabricator and installer in provided a large variety of multi coloured aluminium fabrications around the specially designed windows.

The brief of the new building called for something new and innovative in the construction of a Category 4 bio-containment facility.  For many years research workers and scientists were required to work in bunker like environments.

In the construction of this new building with its specialist glazing works, staff can carry out their work in a working environment consisting of large glazed areas, large windows and extensive views out of the building.

The glazing and cladding contractor provided an open atrium that floods the main communal and rest areas with natural light yet retaining the important containment boundary that is required in a high security facility.

It is now providing a building that  improves research and general productivity, is filled with natural light, safer and ultimately much more pleasant and comfortable for scientists, research and administration staff that work together.

Superior Provided a large range of coloured powder coated aluminium fabrications

As part of the 11000m2 facility Superior provided products to the main laboratory building, gatehouse and energy centre.  Here over  30 different powder coated products were provided in colours ranging from black, through to blue, orange, yellow, pink, red, green, violet and others.  A diverse range of polyester powders was utilised to create the multi coloured windows prominent on the key building elevations.

These contrasting coloured aluminium pressings, panels and trims all work with the standard lighter grey powder coated aluminium windows, curtain walling and doors to create a dramatic modern building that still utilising traditional materials such as wood cladding externally.

This new building, the materials used and the aluminium powder coated windows, screening and pressings have all contributed to create a new facility with air tightness levels that are reported as being over 1000 times greater than those called for by normal building regulations.

The Pirbright Institute is just one of many high profile projects that Superior Insulated Panels has worked on with its high profile client base to create bespoke aluminium powder coated fabrications that fall outside standard products.
